Regarding the Oct. 24 front-page article “U.S. set to keep kill lists for years”:

Endowing the president with the authority to play prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner of any person on the planet (including U.S. citizens) that he secretly and unilaterally decrees to be dangerous to the United States epitomizes the executive tyranny that provoked the American Revolution.

Neither in the text nor subtext of the Constitution is there a syllable hinting at such harrowing power. The U.S. government has crossed into lawlessness, inviting every man to become a law unto himself. To borrow from words by Thomas Jefferson about slavery, “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, and that his justice cannot sleep forever.”
