I was shocked by the Feb. 24 Metro article “A GI’s hunt for Nazi art.” I cannot believe that we are housing and protecting on U.S. soil artwork from Nazi Germany. Not artwork stolen from Jewish people sent to their deaths but rather artwork created by the Nazi regime to glorify and perpetuate Nazism. As the article stated, “Images that showed Nazi leaders; the Nazi symbol, the swastika; or overt propaganda were kept.” Another example mentioned is that of a painting depicting a smiling Hitler being mobbed by happy German soldiers. And we are housing and protecting a large bust of Hitler?

Is this what our taxes are being used for? Every one of these 456 pieces of art should be destroyed. While we should never forget what the Nazis and Hitler did, how can we justify keeping images in existence that he had commissioned?
