Regarding the June 11 op-eds by George F. Will, “A foreign policy of petulance,” and by Adam Schiff, Jerrold Nadler, Zoe Lofgren, Hakeem Jeffries, Val Demings, Sylvia Garcia and Jason Crow, “The president is as lawless and corrupt as ever”:

The president needs “willing accomplices” to carry out his nefarious objectives. Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are not James R. Schlesinger or Henry Kissinger. They will not restrain this president.

President Trump has always used the biggest weapon available to bludgeon those opposed to him. The War Powers Act was written assuming a rational person was the leader of the free world. Has Mr. Trump learned the lesson Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) hoped for? The time to correct the War Powers Act and limit Mr. Trump’s or any successor’s actions to only true national emergencies is now. Later may be too late.
