In his April 21 op-ed column, “In Mich., a Republican who defies stereotypes,” George F. Will wrote about the virtues of libertarian ideology, as reflected in the views of Rep. Justin Amash, just as the bombing in Boston and fertilizer explosion in Texas reminded us of our continuing dependence on government to prevent and respond to dangers to public health and security. In the Texas case, the disaster was at least partly attributable to weak regulation, allowing schools and a nursing home to locate inappropriately close to a very dangerous facility. One assumes that even Mr. Amash expects a strong government presence in dealing with such events.
