Regarding Dana Milbank’s April 2 Washington Sketch column, “A ‘wetback’ backlash”: Rep. Don Young’s initial apology for using the term “wetback” included the excuse that it was a word commonly used when he was a kid on the farm and that he meant no disrespect. Mr. Milbank noted that while this may be true, it is unhelpful. I find that humorous, in that it is basically the same excuse that the NFL and its local franchise use to justify the use of that team’s name. So far for them, it’s worked every time.
