Thank you for publishing my friend Saul Schwartz’s essay on his role as caregiver for his late wife, Cheryl, during her cancer diagnosis and follow-up treatments [“Through six seasons, I did what I could for my wife. It wasn’t enough,” Feb. 18, Health & Science]. After reading it, I was both heartbroken at the too-early death of Mr. Schwartz’s wife and inspired by his example of being by her side through their ultimately unsuccessful battle against this disease. Mr. Schwartz showed that the human spirit and kindness can go a long way in even the most adverse of situations.
