This cocktail was named for the futuristic redesign of the 20th Century Limited train in 1937. It's an odd mix of flavors, with tangy lemon followed by a finish of chocolate.
The original recipe calls for 3/4 ounce of lemon juice, which Spirits columnist Jason Wilson thinks is way too much. He suggests adding an extra 1/4 ounce of the white creme de cacao if you'd like more chocolate flavor.
- 1 1/2 ounces gin
- 3/4 ounce Lillet Blanc
- 1/2 ounce white creme de cacao
- 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
- Twist of lemon peel, for garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the gin, Lillet Blanc, creme de cacao and lemon juice. Shake well, then strain into a chilled cocktail (martini) glass.
Twist the lemon peel over the drink to release its essence, then drop it in as garnish.
