Katrina vanden Heuvel writes a weekly column for The Post. She is the editor and publisher of the Nation magazine. She has also edited or co-edited several books, including “The Change I Believe In: Fighting for Progress in the Age of Obama” (2011), “Meltdown: How Greed and Corruption Shattered Our Financial System and How We Can Recover” (2009), “Taking Back America — and Taking Down the Radical Right” (2004) and “Voices of Glasnost: Interviews with Gorbachev’s Reformers” (1990).
She is a frequent commentator on U.S. and international politics for ABC, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, WNYC and Democracy Now. Her articles have also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times and the Boston Globe.
She has received awards for public service from numerous groups — the New York Civil Liberties Union’s Joseph Callaway Prize for the Defense of the Right to Privacy; the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee's Voices of Peace Award; and the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund’s Justice in Action Award. In 2010, she received the Exceptional Woman in Publishing Award. In 2013, she received American Rights at Work’s Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award and the Center for Community Change's Champion in Activism Award. In 2015, she received the Progressive Congress Leadership Award on behalf of her work "creating pathways of success on behalf of progressive causes."
Vanden Heuvel serves on the boards of the Institute for Policy Studies, the Institute for America's Future, the Correctional Association of New York, the Osborne Society, the Roosevelt Institute, the Nation Institute, the Four Freedoms Park Conservancy and Brave New Films. She is a judge for the Sidney Hillman Foundation's Hillman Prize.
