Susannah George is a prize-winning journalist with deep experience in reporting from the Middle East, including assignments in Egypt, Libya, Bahrain and Tunisia during the Arab Spring and in Iraq on multiple tours.
She headed the Associated Press’s Baghdad bureau from 2015 to 2018, leading coverage of the prolonged battle to retake Mosul from the Islamic State. Her work from Baghdad twice won honors from the Overseas Press Club, and it was part of the AP’s Pulitzer finalist package in 2018 that showed the human cost of the U.S.-led defeat of the Islamic State in Mosul was far greater than anticipated.
Susannah is an Arabic speaker and a graduate of George Washington University. She began her career as a producer and editor for National Public Radio and immediately before joining The Post covered national security and intelligence from the AP’s Washington bureau.
