A bishop embroiled in financial and sexual misconduct investigation
After a several-month-long investigation, the Catholic Church suspended Bishop Michael J. Bransfield in March over alleged financial and sexual misconduct. Now, new details within secret documents reveal Bransfield gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to clerics throughout the church, including Catholic leadership. (The former bishop would later be reimbursed by the West Virginia diocese.) Bransfield told The Post he did nothing wrong.
Michelle Boorstein, a religion reporter for The Post, said the revelations from the church’s investigation run counter to its efforts to be more transparent and proactive in fighting abuse by members of the clergy.
