Since the dramatic series of firings at the Department of Homeland Security last month, Post reporter Nick Miroff has wondered: What made Trump think these officials weren’t “tough” enough on border security?

In the last few days, he’s discovered what was happening behind the scenes: The officials had questioned a secret White House plan to arrest thousands of parents and children in a blitz operation against migrants in 10 major U.S. cities.
Nick covers immigration and national security for The Post and says the idea was to deter migrants from coming across the border by showing “force” with mass arrests and deportations.

Bible classes in public schools
In Kentucky, a growing number of public schools are offering classes on the Bible, thanks to a law passed in 2017 by the state legislature. Religion reporter Julie Zauzmer went to two of those schools to sit in on these classes — and to learn how conservative lawmakers are encouraging state-funded biblical education.

But Zauzmer says the classes toe a fine legal line in teaching the Bible as a text without espousing religion, and some worry that they could threaten the separation of church and state.
