The Trump administration is trying to roll back civil rights protections
The Trump administration is considering a far-reaching rollback of civil rights protections across several federal departments, according to people familiar with the administration's discussions.

The Justice Department is exploring doing away with an anti-discrimination regulation known as the “disparate impact” clause. Similar action is being considered at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Education Department.

Education reporter Laura Meckler says that supporters of the regulation believe it is a critical tool in tracking policies that have discriminatory effects, even when that isn’t explicitly their intention.
