Cory Booker lays out his gun control proposals
Democratic presidential hopefuls came together on gun control this weekend at a forum in Des Moines organized by Moms Demand Action and other groups.
They spoke largely in one voice, condemning what they said was President Trump’s and Republicans’ gridlocking of policy in Congress. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) rolled out a gun control plan during the event that echoed the ideas of Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), who released a proposal earlier this year to create a federal gun-licensing program.
Host Martine Powers caught up with Booker at a convention in Miami to discuss the points of his 14-part plan. “This is not a big leap in logic,” he says. “We need a license to drive a car. We should have a license to purchase and own a firearm. It’s been done before.”

What happens next in the pursuit of justice against Epstein?
Jeffrey Epstein, the politically connected financier indicted on federal sex-trafficking charges last month, died Saturday of what authorities called an “apparent suicide” in a federal detention center in Manhattan.
The registered sex offender was alleged to have trafficked and abused dozens of girls, and he faced up to 45 years in prison if convicted. His death short-circuits a trial his accusers hoped would bring justice they felt he’d long evaded, and it raises questions about U.S. jail officials’ ability to protect suspects in their custody, says reporter Matt Zapotosky.

‘30-50 feral hogs’ is an understatement
The millions of feral hogs that inhabit large swaths of land in the southern United States have long worn down crops, eaten endangered sea turtles and trampled archaeological sites.
Now, thanks to an anti-gun-control tweet that went viral last week, they’ve stumbled into the national debate over the availability of assault-style rifles. Reporter Alex Horton breaks down the meme that ties their sharp tusks to a need for AR-15s in rural America.
