‘God forgive America’: Newspapers around the world react to Trump

If you thought millions of Americans were overwhelmed by Donald Trump’s election, take a gander at how the rest of the world is reacting. Not since Sept. 12, 2001 — arguably the most tumultuous in modern U.S. history — have international papers reacted with such panicked alarm about breaking news in the United States.

Among the most inflammatory covers was the Australia’s Daily Telegraph’s, which simply led with three letters: “WTF.”

Spanish newspaper El Periodico offered readers an ominous phrase: “God forgive America.”

Not to be outdone, Times of India — the country’s biggest English-language newspaper — didn’t hold back and published their own Trump-inspired headline:

“It’s official,” he headline states, “@realDonaldTrump grabs America by the…”

“Congratulations, Mr. President-elect!”
