In his prepared remarks, Comey said that he chose to take detailed notes on his meetings and discussions with President Trump — something he opted not to do with President Barack Obama.
The reason, Comey says, was simple: He was worried that Trump might lie about what they discussed.
“I was honestly concerned he might lie about the nature of our meeting,” Comey said.
Comey detailed in his prepared opening statement why he began taking notes on his interactions with Trump, beginning with their first meeting on Jan. 6, two weeks before the president was inaugurated. He said he had two private meetings with Obama, who appointed him in 2013, and did not take detailed notes of those.
