Several Democratic women chose to mark President Trump’s first address to a joint session of Congress by wearing white — the color of suffragettes, which Hillary Clinton’s supporters embraced during the campaign.

Republican women appear to be answering with a color of their own: purple, a color that in political circles, has come to symbolize bipartisanship.

Several prominent Republican women were spotted sporting purple, including Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Callista Gingrich, wife of Trump adviser Newt Gingrich, and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), a member of the House’s leadership team. Republican women, however, do not have a lock on the color of bipartisanship tonight. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, one of the Democratic Party’s biggest firebrands, also opted for a purple blazer.
