Trump one-ups China, promises ‘great, great wall’ on the southern border

China has the Great Wall. President Trump promised Tuesday to do them one better. The United States could soon have a “great, great wall,” he said.

Trump pledged that construction on his long promised border wall with Mexico would begin soon — but he again failed to deliver any details about how it would be paid for.

“It will be started ahead of schedule,” the New York business mogul-turned-president said, “and, when finished, it will be a very effective weapon against drugs and crime.”

The wall, one of Trump’s central campaign promises, is expected to cost $20 billion. Administration officials said they are examining ways to divert some existing funding from the Department of Homeland Security to begin planning of the wall, but most of the funds would likely have to be allocated by Congress.
