Nevada’s Democratic Party has avoided any last-minute surprises, as candidates supported by party leaders and national groups easily won nominations in two open House seats.
In the 3rd Congressional District, which Rep. Jacky Rosen (D) is leaving to run for U.S. Senate, philanthropist Susie Lee easily prevailed in a seven-way race. Lee had run in 2016 for the nearby 4th Congressional District, falling short, but making powerful friends inside the party; EMILY’s List supported her soon after she announced her comeback run.
In the 4th district, former congressman Steven Horsford bested five other Democrats — some with considerable support from labor unions and left-wing groups — to take the party’s nomination.
Both districts have been competitive since they were first drawn, in 2012. Early in the evening, two Republicans who had run before in the seats were leading their primaries — Danny Tarkanian in the 3rd district, and one-term congressman Cresent Hardy in the 4th district.
