Rosen, Heller faceoff set for November in Nevada Senate race

One-term Rep. Jacky Rosen (D) won the Democratic Senate primary for a chance to face Republican Sen. Dean Heller in November. Heller’s seat is the Democrats’ biggest pickup priority in the chamber; it’s the only state won by Hillary Clinton in 2016 with a Republican senator up for reelection.

Rosen defeated five fringe candidates, led by Jesse Sbaih, an attorney who loaned himself $2 million and ran to Rosen’s left. Heller, who was helped when President Trump personally urged activist Danny Tarkanian to leave the race, had no serious opposition.

Voters in five states will pick their nominees in House, Senate and gubernatorial races Tuesday, although some of the nominees in November’s most closely watched races are expecting little drama. For that, the parties are nervously monitoring primaries in a half-dozen House seats, with highly touted challengers, once-safe incumbents and ideological insurgents fighting to change what their parties stand for.
