Trump to assess midterm results in late morning news conference

President Trump will host a news conference late Wednesday morning in the wake of the midterm elections, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced in a tweet.

Trump declared the results a “Big Victory” in an earlier tweet, despite the loss of the House by Republicans. The president has started congratulating candidates he backed, including former Republican congressman Ron DeSantis, who was elected governor of Florida. Trump said DeSantis showed “great courage” in his race against Democrat Andrew Gillum.

Trump’s news conference is slated to start at 11:30 a.m. in the East Room of the White House.

In a later tweet, he said he would be “discussing our success in the Midterms!”
