The effort to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom ends Tuesday, bringing to a close the question of whether Californians will oust their relatively popular Democratic governor and replace him with a conservative, Trump-supporting Republican.

The challenge was viewed as serious enough to threaten his job and bring the president to the state to campaign for him, but indicators about Democratic turnout in the state for early, mail-in voting are positive for Newsom. We’ll find out the results in the coming days.
