Today, President Biden, during a visit to the battleground state of Ohio, pledged that the $280 billion Chips and Science Act, passed by Congress in July, would transform the U.S. semiconductor industry. “The industrial Midwest is back,” Biden said as he spoke at a groundbreaking ceremony for Intel’s new $20 billion manufacturing facility near Columbus, Ohio.

“Folks, the future of the chip industry is going to be made in America,” Biden said at an event that drew politicians from both parties, including Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) and Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), as they celebrated a bipartisan legislative achievement and a major economic development project for the region. The event took place in a state with a competitive Senate race in November to replace the retiring Portman, but partisan politics were largely absent from the program.
