Today, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) promoted a Republican platform that lays out the party’s priorities, including strengthening the economy, if it takes control of Congress after the midterm elections. He also challenged President Biden to a series of debates on the document, which contains few concrete proposals. In an earlier speech, also in the Pittsburgh area, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) criticized the GOP plan as short on specifics and highlighted a string of Democratic legislative successes in recent months, including a major investment in the country’s infrastructure.

In Washington, President Biden appeared at the latest in a series of Democratic National Committee events before hosting a concert at the White House by Elton John. Biden is expected to speak at the event, which has been dubbed “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme.”
