Mitt Romney beat Rick Santorum in the Iowa caucuses by just eight votes, a sign of a splintered and increasingly fractious field as the GOP presidential race moves to New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida.
Early returns show an exceptionally tight race between former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney, and Rep. Ron Paul. Santorum hopes the last-minute surge will boost his campaign in New Hampshire and beyond.
