Shutdown damages Republicans, with plenty of pain to go around

More Americans blame Republicans in Congress than President Obama for the government shutdown, almost a mirror image of the shutdown 17 years ago. The tactic is widely unpopular and seen as causing damage to the U.S. economy and the nations image abroad. Unfavorable ratings of Obama and the Democratic Party have reached record highs, but negative views of Republicans and the tea party movement are even higher. Read related article.

Source: This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone Thursday-Sunday, among a random sample of 1,002 adults. Interviews were conducted in English and Spanish on landlines and cellphones. The results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
