This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone July 18 to 21 among a random sample of 1,002 adults. Interviews were conducted in English and Spanish on conventional and cellular phones. The results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. The error margin is 4.5 points for the sample of white respondents and 11 points among African Americans.
