A New Line with Robin Givhan and Derek Lam
On Wednesday, June 13, American fashion designer Derek Lam joined Washington Post Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion critic Robin Givhan for the next installment in her “A New Line” interview series with leading names in the industry. Lam started his eponymous womenswear line in New York City in 2002. Since then, his designs have been exhibited at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Lam, a previous winner of the Swarovski Perry Ellis award for new designers, discussed the entrepreneurial philosophy that has shaped his career, his focus on growing his brand internationally and the expanding role of social media in the fashion industry.
