Of course, this is hardly a new trope of U.S. politics. People swore publicly that they’d flee the country if George W. Bush was reelected in 2004 (in the case of many Democrats, who will mostly still be around to vote this fall) or if the Affordable Care Act became law in 2010 (in the case of Rush Limbaugh, who still lives in Palm Beach, Fla.). Only the tiniest fraction of those who threaten to quit the country actually do it.
