Mary Szafranski has worked at the Arizona Department of Education since 1993. In July 2004, she was appointed Deputy Associate Superintendent for Health and Nutrition Services. As Deputy Associate Superintendent, her responsibilities includes providing oversight, administration and technical assistance to all schools, childcare centers and homes participating in the health and nutrition programs administered by the Department of Education. Health and Nutrition Services reimburses over $300 million federal dollars to Arizona schools, childcare centers and homes for nutritious meals served to children participating in the USDA programs.
With Mary’s leadership, the Health and Nutrition Services Unit continually operates on the premise that any child who receives a healthy meal, gets plenty of exercise and learns how to make healthy choices, is a child who is capable of achieving academic excellence. Mary and her team, through program implementation and assistance, successfully make a positive impact on Arizona children and the communities in which these children live. It is Mary’s belief that together, we can make a difference in the lives of Arizona children by ensuring that everything we do actively supports our children to grow into healthy, successful adults.
