Announcement from Executive Features Editor Liz Seymour, Deputy Features Editor Mitch Rubin, Deputy Magazine Editor David Rowell and Magazine Editor Richard Just:

We are excited to announce that Whitney Joiner, the features director at Hearst Magazines Digital Media, will join the magazine as an articles editor.

Whitney has edited the work of a range of impressive writers, including former Style writer Libby Copeland. A story they worked on together, "Kate's Still Here," was voted the top feature of 2017 by readers of the Sunday Long Read and won the 2017 Hearst Editorial Excellence Award for Feature Writing.

At Hearst, Whitney launched the company's first centralized features desk and edited long-form stories for the digital versions of Esquire, ELLE, Marie Claire and Town & Country, among other titles. She has also been a senior features editor at Marie Claire and a freelance writer based in Marfa, Texas, where she contributed to ELLE, Glamour, The New York Times and Salon.

In 2015, Whitney co-founded a website and online community called The Recollectors Project to support adult children of parents lost to AIDS. She holds a B.A. in American Studies from Smith College.

Whitney comes to the magazine at a time when its digital readership has grown substantially, and soon after a redesign in print and online that includes several new features and a mission to push the boundaries of creative storytelling.

She starts Nov. 26. Please join us in welcoming her to the newsroom.
