Announcement from National News Editor Steven Ginsberg, National Assignment Editor Rachel Van Dongen and National Assignment Editor Sara Sorcher:

We’re excited to announce that Joseph Marks will be the new anchor of The Cybersecurity 202 newsletter.

Joe comes to us from NextGov, where he is a senior cybersecurity reporter focused on issues including privacy, government cyber authorities, Russian hacking battles and encryption. Previously, he was a cybersecurity reporter for Politico, where he regularly authored that publication’s Morning Cybersecurity newsletter. He also has covered patent and copyright trends for Bloomberg BNA and federal litigation for Law360. All of that experience will translate well into The Post’s cybersecurity newsletter, which has seen a 40 percent growth in subscribers since its launch in May.

Joe began his career covering city and county governments, crime, fires and other features. He spent two years at the Grand Forks Herald in North Dakota, where he exhaustively covered the University of North Dakota’s lawsuit against the NCAA to retain its Native American team nickname.

Joe is originally from Iowa City, Iowa. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s in international affairs from Georgetown University.

Please welcome Joe when he starts on Dec. 3.
