Announcement from National Editor Steven Ginsberg, Deputy National Editor Lori Montgomery and Politics Editor Peter Wallsten:

We are delighted to announce that Colby Itkowitz is returning to the National Politics staff as a member of the breaking news team.

In her new assignment, Colby will join John Wagner and Felicia Sonmez on a team that has powered our coverage of the biggest political stories of the day since its launch in April. With Colby, the team will extend its hours well into the evening and operate seven days a week. And our readers will benefit from her keen understanding of politics, her passion for news and her ability to write with speed and clarity.

Colby joined The Post in 2014 to work alongside Al Kamen on his “In the Loop” column. She then took a break from politics to anchor the Inspired Life blog, where she regularly wrote uplifting takes on the news that drew enormous readership. In recent months, Colby has demonstrated her versatility on politics, filling in as anchor of the Health 202 newsletter and on the Fix, where she has written the Five Minute Fix newsletter. Colby previously worked as the Washington correspondent for The (Allentown, Pa.) Morning Call and as a transportation policy reporter at Congressional Quarterly.

Colby lives in Washington with her husband, Chad, and their 14-month-old daughter, Evelyn. Her first day on the breaking news team will be March 12. Please join us in congratulating her.
