Announcement from Foreign Editor Douglas Jehl and Deputy Foreign Editor Eva Rodriguez:
We’re delighted to announce that Matthew Hay Brown will join The Post as Americas editor, a new role dedicated to our expanding coverage of Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.
Matt will take charge of a team that includes Kevin Sieff and Mary Beth Sheridan in Mexico; Anthony Faiola in Miami; and Marina Lopes in Brazil, with a soon-to-be named Brazil bureau chief. His correspondents focused on Canada will include Emily Rauhala, who is based in Washington, as well as Talent Network contributors in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.
Matt comes to us from USA Today where he is a national enterprise editor. He is a former Caribbean correspondent who has also reported from Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. During his stint covering the Caribbean from 2002 to 2005, Matt was based in Puerto Rico for Tribune newspapers, and reported from Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and other islands, reporting in both English and Spanish. He began his career at the Hartford Courant, and spent 13 years as a reporter and editor at the Baltimore Sun, where he demonstrated his leadership as senior editor for investigations, enterprise and national news.
Matt is a graduate of Boston College and the Columbia School of Journalism, and he has taught journalism at Catholic University and the University of Maryland. He lives with his wife and two daughters in University Park, Md.
