We are thrilled to announce that Elliot Smilowitz will become the newsroom’s first competition analyst.
Elliot joins us from The Hill, where he has worked since 2015 — as a web editor, breaking news editor and, most recently, the managing editor for social media. He played an integral role in the site's explosive growth by taking the lead on breaking news coverage and audience development.
In this new role at The Post, Elliot will monitor competitor sites and use digital and social analytics tools to help us answer a single question: What should we be covering right now? He will look for emerging stories and angles to help the GA team and editors around the newsroom in their real-time assignment decisions.
With his background and nose for news, Elliot is the perfect journalist to fill this role and help us increase our flexibility, speed and competitive awareness.
Before joining The Hill, Elliot spent more than eight years at the Washington Examiner, where he held numerous positions, including news editor, sports editor, web producer and page designer. He graduated from American University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
