Announcement from National Editor Steven Ginsburg, PowerPost Editor Rachel Van Dongen and Deputy PowerPost Editor Sara Sorcher:

We’re excited to announce that Brent Griffiths is joining The Washington Post as a researcher for Power Up and The Finance 202. Brent will help Jacqueline Alemany report and write our early morning newsletter for Washington insiders, and assist Tory Newmyer in delivering to inboxes the sharpest daily economic policy news and analysis.

Brent comes to us from Politico, where he has worked as a web producer, helping enhance the digital impact of stories, handling social media accounts and covering breaking news. Brent will be a contributing writer on the latest edition of the Almanac of American Politics due out this summer. He previously interned with Politico and The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Brent grew up in Omaha, Neb., and received his bachelor's degree from The University of Iowa. He worked on The Daily Iowan and was one of the founding members of the paper's Ethics and Politics Initiative, covering presidential politics in Iowa from 2014 through caucus night 2016.

In his free time Brent volunteers at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, enjoys days at the ballpark and longs for the Huskers to have a winning season again.

Please welcome Brent when he starts on March 18.
