Announcement from General Assingment Editor Keith McMillan, Live News Editor Josh Freedom du Lac and Senior Director of Audience Ryan Kellett:

We are thrilled to announce that Angela Fritz is joining the General Assignment news desk as a deputy editor after a distinguished run with the Capital Weather Gang. Angela will help lead a growing team of GA reporters charged with generating digital enterprise and covering breaking news.

Angela joined The Post in 2014 as deputy editor of Capital Weather Gang, where her writing brought to life everything from the polar vortex to Hurricane Irma's astonishing ability to make the ocean vanish. She has written about wildfires, thundersnow, earthquakes and tsunamis, and also co-authored an investigation into disputed snowfall totals at Reagan National Airport. Her work has earned widespread admiration and led Washingtonian magazine to describe her as "delightful." Angela and Jason Samenow shared a Publisher's Award in 2017 for their coverage of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

Angela spent several months filling in as deputy editor on the Health and Science desk before working in GA in early February. Her first week with GA was a news derecho, from the State of the Union address to a memorable Medium post authored by Jeff Bezos. We promised her that all weeks on GA wouldn't be like that.

Angela, a Cleveland native, graduated from Valparaiso University with a degree in meteorology and minor in mathematics, and earned her master’s in earth and atmospheric science from Georgia Tech. Before joining The Post, she led a team of software developers for Weather Underground, served as a weather producer for CNN and was a lead forecaster for Climate Forecast Applications Network in Atlanta. When she isn't wrangling copy or battling climate deniers on Twitter (@angelafritz), she is busy nearing 100 percent completion of Red Dead Redemption 2 and swears she's always just a few games away from hitting diamond in Overwatch.

Please congratulate her on this new role.
