ACES: The Society for Editing on Friday recognized The Washington Post and Express as winners in its 2018 National Headline Contest.

The Post received first and second place awards in the National News Organization category. First place went to Bruce Guthrie for headlines including, “Is streetlight plan too bright an idea? Takoma Park wants to use LED bulbs, but some residents don’t like them.” Second place went to Wayne Lockwood for headlines including, “A tipping point for the dining industry.” Express also received a second place award in the Regional/Local News Organization category for Thomas Floyd’s headlines including, “’Queer Eye’ doesn’t see red or blue: Star Jonathan Van Ness hopes the show can heal political wounds.”

According to ACES’s press release, the National Headline Contest aims to reward exceptional headline writing in all types of media, from newspapers to social networks.
