On Thursday April 18,The Washington Post Live will premiere the 2019 World Press Freedom Index where Reporters Without Borders, one of the world’s largest non-governmental organization specializing in the defense of media freedom, will present the 2019 World Press Freedom Index which examines , a ranking indicating the degree of freedom that journalists, news organizations and citizens enjoy in more than 180 countries.

  • Following the presentation, Jonathan Karl, the Chief White House Correspondent for ABC News,  Jessikka Aro, an Investigative Reporter for the Finnish Broadcast Company,  and Chouchou Namegabe, the Founder and CEO of ANZAFRIKA, will discuss safeguarding press freedom, and its importance in the health of democratic and informed societies and the people who live in them. We will also hear from Swedish Ambassador Karin Olofsdotter and Ethiopian Ambassador Fitsum Arega Gebrekidan, whose countries are making strides toward the freedom and safety of the press around the world, along with Jameel Jaffer, Executive Director, Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.
