Announcement from Director of Video Micah Gelman, Deputy Director of Video Phoebe Connelly, Senior Video Producer Deirdra O’Regan and Senior Video Producer Peter Stevenson:
We are excited to announce several role changes in video as we ramp up coverage of the 2020 campaign.
Elyse Samuels is taking on the newly created role of video verification editor. Elyse will be responsible for identifying and verifying video from major news events on Facebook, Reddit and other platforms. Elyse will work closely with other members of the video team, along with politics, investigative, foreign and features to produce stories examining the origins of viral videos. Elyse is already diving into this beat, with explainers about the Christchurch mosque shootings and this week’s bombings in Sri Lanka. Elyse will also help lead training efforts around verification.
Blair Guild will take on the role of politics breaking news video editor. She will be our go-to person for finding moments from campaign events that are driving the daily conversation. Blair will also look for opportunities to pull politics stories out of the daily news cycle to look at larger trends. Blair will also be responsible for maintaining our database of campaign events.
Jhaan Elker will join the national video editing team after a successful run covering business and technology. Jhaan launched our tech review series with Geoff Fowler and covered everything from space launches to the rise of robocalls to international trade disputes. In his new role, Jhaan will work with national to cover stories at the intersection of policy and the citizenry, from immigration and the Supreme Court to science and the environment.
As part of these changes, Melissa Macaya will shift from leading the evening breaking news team to becoming morning coverage editor and Patrick Martin will take over for Melissa running evenings.
Please join us in congratulating Elyse, Blair, Jhaan, Melissa and Patrick on their new roles.
