Announcement from Director of Video Micah Gelman, Editorial Page Editor Fred Hiatt and Supervising Editor and Producer of Video Op-Eds Kate Woodsome:

We are thrilled that Joy Sharon Yi will be joining The Post staff as a producer and editor with the Op-Ed video team.

Joy has been a freelance documentary filmmaker and photographer for seven years. She joined The Post in 2018 as a contract video editor for the AMP Stories team, where she worked with reporters, photo editors and designers to create multimedia stories. Joy quickly became a valued collaborator, and was recruited to produce and edit videos for The Fact Checker.

Last year, Joy filmed and edited #FreeJason: The inside story of The Post’s fight to free Jason Rezaian from Iran. While on temporary duty with Opinions, she also created the format for Editorial Board videos and brought new visual approaches to columnists’ perspectives.

Joy has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in television and broadcast journalism from Chapman University and a master’s in new media photojournalism from George Washington University. While at GW, she worked on a multimedia project about teenagers coming of age in a gentrifying neighborhood of Washington. Her work has appeared on NPR, The Atlantic CityLab, and AFP News Agency.

Joy grew up in California, the daughter of Korean immigrants. Her hobby and quest is to find “real tacos” in Washington. Please congratulate Joy as she starts her new role on May 6.
