We are thrilled to announce that Rachel Orr has moved into the role of design editor for By The Way, our new digital travel initiative.
Rachel began her career at The Post in 2013 as designer for Express. She joined the newsroom in 2014 as an original member of Team Rainbow, helping to establish the Emerging News Products team’s reputation for standout design.
After designing for the Washington Post Select app, Rachel turned her attention to collaborating on the design aesthetic for The Lily, eventually becoming its lead art director. During her time on The Lily, Rachel was instrumental in developing the product’s visual voice on Instagram. She also launched weekly comics — one of The Lily’s most successful series. Rachel’s work has been recognized by the Society for News Design, the Society of Publication Designers and the Webbys.
Before joining The Post, Rachel worked as a designer for The Gannett Design Studio in Phoenix. She is a 2011 graduate of Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication.
Rachel is a big fan of sending and receiving snail mail. Her travels have allowed her to send postcards from a wide range of destinations — from Barcelona to Lynchburg. This fall she’s traveling to Italy for the Venice Biennale.
