Announcement from Morning Mix Editor Tim Elfrink and Morning Mix Deputy Editor Tim Bella:

We’re delighted to announce that Teo Armus is joining Morning Mix as a staff writer. A member of the 2018 intern class, Teo returns to us from the Charlotte Observer, where he covered immigration, race and identity. In that role, he’s written about sheriffs accused of racial discrimination, small-town Pride Day controversies, civil rights figures and a homeless couple with a newborn baby. He also led the paper’s breaking news coverage of the UNC-Charlotte shooting.

Before moving to North Carolina, Teo worked as a reporting fellow at the Texas Tribune, including a stint on the U.S.-Mexico border. Fittingly for a Mix reporter, his favorite assignments during his intern summer on Metro were reported in the middle of the night — at a gay club late in the evening and on a crabbing boat before dawn.

Teo, who speaks fluent Spanish and proficient French, graduated from Columbia University with a degree in urban studies. An Argentine American and New York City native, he loves empanadas, bagels and biking and looks forward to uncovering D.C.'s best spots for all three.

Please welcome Teo back to the newsroom when he returns Sept. 16.
