Announcement from Director of Video Micah Gelman, Deputy Director of Video Phoebe Connelly, and Senior Producer Tom LeGro:

We’re happy to announce that Alexa Ard will join our team of video editors in Foreign. Alexa joins us from McClatchy’s D.C. bureau, where for the past three years she was a national video producer for the company’s 30 U.S. newsrooms. She helped in their coverage of many major events, including the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the Robert Mueller investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Her work on “Trump’s inner circle: The ties to Russia” won the 2019 People’s Voice Webby for Best Use of Interactive Video.

Alexa was also the associate producer for McClatchy Studios’ 10-episode documentary series called “The War Within,” which documented the lives of three military veterans coping with PTSD after serving in Afghanistan.

The experience of working with journalists across 30 newsrooms will serve Alexa well in Foreign, where she will join video editors Jason Aldag and Joyce Lee in working with more than 27 correspondents deployed outside the United States. We’re excited that she’ll bring her outstanding collaborative spirit to The Post.

Alexa is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She enjoys getting plugged into creative communities around the city like the D.C. Video Consortium. She loves fashion, dance, art museums and learning about different cultures. Her favorite sport is basketball; she grew up playing it.

With Alexa joining the department, we will slightly reconfigure the foreign video editor assignments. Alexa will edit for the Americas and Europe; Joyce will continue to handle the Middle East, Africa and South Asia; while Jason will cover Asia, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.

Please welcome Alexa when she starts Sept. 30.
