Announcement from General Assignment Editor Keith McMillan, Live News Editor Josh du Lac and Senior Director of Audience Ryan Kellett:

We are delighted to announce that Marisa Iati is joining the General Assignment news desk, where she’ll write breaking news and enterprise.

Marisa comes to The Post through our partnership with the American University School of Communication, where she was a graduate student and researcher in the Investigative Reporting Workshop. Through the American practicum, Marisa reported with The Post's Local staff, focusing on Retropolis, religion and social issues. She also has been reporting for GA since May, writing about the Newark water crisis, an Alabama proposal to chemically prevent the urges of sex offenders, and the spiritual beliefs of a woman who married a 300-year-old ghost.

Before attending AU, Marisa covered local news for the Newark Star-Ledger and, and foreign bribery investigations and other white-collar law enforcement for Global Investigations Review. Marisa, a native of Somerset County, N.J., graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in American studies and journalism.

When Marisa isn’t reporting, she can be found attending author talks at Politics & Prose and chasing down strangers to ask if she can pet their dogs. She considers herself an expert on the District’s best breakfast sandwiches.

Please join us in officially welcoming Marisa.
