Announcement from Executive Editor Marty Baron, Editorial Page Editor Fred Hiatt and Outlook Editor Carlos Lozada:
We are delighted to announce that Adam Kushner, the executive editor of National Journal, is joining The Washington Post as editor of a new digital opinion and analysis venture that promises to deliver wide-ranging commentary on the big, in-the-moment debates facing Washington, the country and the world.
Adam’s experience, personality and contacts prepare him perfectly for this role. At National Journal, he has run all aspects of the magazine, from setting overall direction for coverage to serving as story guru for individual writing. Previously, he was a senior editor at Newsweek, leading foreign coverage and writing on ideas and trends, and editor of TNR.com, where he oversaw a site relaunch and was also the New Republic’s assistant managing editor.
In this new role, Adam will assemble a team of editors and manage a large network of outside contributors. He will work closely with Outlook and the Editorial page, and will report jointly to Fred Hiatt and Carlos Lozada.
Adam, a native of New Orleans, studied classics at Columbia University, where he co-founded the Columbia Journal of Literary Criticism. He has also been a writer in residence at the Poynter Institute. Expect him to provide Post readers with sharp and pointed commentary – as befitting a former fencer.
Adam will start February 24. Please join us in welcoming him to The Post.
