Announcement from Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor, and Jackson Diehl, deputy editorial page editor:

We are delighted to announce that Michael Larabee will become oped editor, replacing Autumn Brewington, who performed the job so ably for the past seven years.

Michael came to the Post from the Times Union in Albany, N.Y., in 2005. He worked on the copy desks in Metro and here in Editorial and then became our letters and local opinions editor in 2009. In that difficult and vital position, he has excelled. We’re excited that he has agreed to bring to our commentary operation the same deft editing skills, creativity, common sense and collegiality that he has applied for the past five years to the letters column, the Local Opinions page and the All Opinions Are Local blog that he helped to create.

Mike will start as soon as we find someone to take his current position.
