The Washington Post today named Sam Kumar as the international sales director based in London. In this role, Kumar will oversee the print and digital business with international clients and agencies as well as manage The Post’s sales team abroad.

“As a premier publisher with reporters around the world, The Washington Post attracts a large, global audience. Our international business is growing rapidly, and having someone like Sam lead that part of our operation allows us to take it to the next level,” said Kevin Gentzel, chief revenue officer of The Washington Post.

Previously, Kumar was the online global sales director at The Economist, where he managed the commercial roll-out of new products and won a British Media Award for most innovative campaign in 2012. He was also international business director at Go Viral, an AOL company, and most recently served as Vice President of Sales EMEA at Visible Measures.

Kumar’s first day is June 9.
