Announcement from Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor, and Jackson Diehl, deputy editorial page editor:

We are delighted to announce that Jo-Ann Armao will join the masthead as associate editorial page editor beginning Monday.

In many ways this simply aligns title with long-existing reality. In her nine years on the Editorial Board, Jo-Ann has become an essential leader well beyond her own areas of focus, which include the District of Columbia, national and local education, domestic abuse, voting rights and many other issues. Her sound judgment, news sense and passion for fair play inform our editorials every day.

Before joining the Editorial Department, Jo-Ann led the Metro staff for nine years, followed by a Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford University. She came to The Washington Post in 1984 and worked, both as reporter and editor, on the Maryland, Virginia and D.C. desks.

Please join us in congratulating Jo-Ann.
