Announcement from Martin Baron, executive editor of The Washington Post:

I am pleased to announce that Cory Haik has been named Executive Director, Emerging News Products.

This newsroom position reflects Cory’s vital and ever-increasing role in forging essential partnerships with key companies in social media and search as well as new pioneering companies making a mark in our field. It also seeks to capitalize on Cory’s leadership in developing creative ways to deliver Post journalism to readers.

As you know, Cory has led the news team that developed the “Rainbow” app, first for Amazon’s Kindle Fire and most recently for iOS and Android devices of all types. Her team also developed an app for the Apple watch, worked to get our journalism smartly displayed on Flipboard, and drafted pending proposals that would distribute Rainbow-designed Post journalism on other important platforms.

In addition to continuing to lead the Rainbow team, Cory will work with the entire newsroom on additional products that aim to expand our audience beyond traditional boundaries. This will call for a spirit of collaboration throughout our organization as well as an appetite for rapid testing and experimentation of new customer experiences.

In this role, Cory will work seamlessly with our colleagues throughout The Post, including Engineering, Business Development, Research, and Advertising. Cory will work closely with managing editors Kevin Merida and Emilio Garcia-Ruiz and report directly to me.
