Callum Borchers joins The Fix team

Announcement from Cameron Barr, Scott Wilson, Chris Cillizza and Aaron Blake:

We are happy to announce that Callum Borchers will join The Fix to launch a new beat exploring the intersection of politics and the media.

In this role Cal will examine how campaigns interact with mainstream and social media, keep tabs on the latest trends in political media, and occasionally call balls, strikes and fouls regarding campaign coverage. The idea is to be fast, smart and newsy in capturing how and why the media is such a large and essential part of the political story today.

Cal comes to us from the Boston Globe where he got his start in 2012 covering the presidential campaign. More recently, he has written about the greater Boston business community with a focus on the media, technology and sports. He was also part of the staff that earned a Pulitzer Prize for its reporting on the Boston Marathon bombings.

Cal has served as an adjunct professor at Fisher College in Boston and an investigative reporter at the Northeastern University Initiative for Investigative Reporting. A graduate of Ithaca College, he earned a master’s degree in journalism from Northeastern.

In 2014, he qualified for the U.S. national pararowing team, and he hopes to compete in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Cal’s first day will be November 2. Please join us is welcoming him to the staff.
